This two-day session will cover a variety of basic report writer topics to prepare the user for success during the regular conference sessions, geared towards creating and operationalizing successful validation tools. A combination of lecture, exercises, and hands-on-practice will be used during the pre-conference session.
Core Concepts and Data Table Reports (Day 1) – This session is designed to provide the new user the necessary skills to analyze a data request and how to select the appropriate tools to fulfill the request. This session also introduces a variety of standard reports and how to create a basic data table report.
Creating New Vocabulary from Existing Vocabulary (Day 1) – This session demonstrates how to use, save as, and modify existing vocabulary to build additional vocabulary to use within data validation.
Creating Powerful Queries (Day 1) – This session is designed to teach the user how to define parameters to subset the data for output. The session begins with basic single-line queries and advances to more complex queries using a variety of available operators.
Statistics Reports (Day 2) – Attendees will learn how to create a statistics report using mathematical functions such as average, minimum, maximum, counts, and percentages.
Gathers and Coded Variables (Day 2) – Attendees will learn how to present groupings of data using the power of Gathers and creating customized groupings using coded variables.
Formatting Output in MS Excel® (Day 2) – This session will provide the user with information on how to export a basic data table report to Excel® and how to manipulate the data using native Excel® functions.
