Trauma registry data is the hub of an effective trauma system. It is critical that the data contained within a trauma registry is valid because valid data drives the trauma system to success. The two-day conference sessions will concentrate on the concepts and skills necessary to implement a sound validation plan.
Data Validation Concepts
This group lecture session will define how valid data drives the different cogs of trauma systems. Emphasis will be placed on examples of each area and the impact invalid data could potentially have on the decision-making process. This session will also define data validation and related terms such as importing, mapping, auto-calculations, business rules, single variable, multi-variable, test/retest, and inter-rater reliability.
Determining What to Validate
This session concentrates on using algorithms to determine which data elements warrant being validated and which validation process works best for the identified data element. This session is a combined lecture and hands-on lab with worksheets and exercises.
Using Standard Reports & Basic Queries for Validation
Standard reports are one of the most underutilized report writer tools regarding data validation. This lab session will demonstrate how several standard reports can be used to identify potential opportunities for improvement of data. Basic queries will then be implemented to identify specific patient populations that should be reviewed.
Using Robust Queries to Identify Validation Opportunities
This lab session will outline how to use building block queries to execute complex logic statements to identify potential opportunities for data validation.
The Power of True/False Statements in Validation
A well-defined data table report will be used in conjunction with True/False statements paired with robust queries to demonstrate an easy way to analyze a large group of data for data validation.
How to Create a Validation Plan
This session will provide the user with suggested components for creating a vigorous data validation plan. Each component will be explained extensively for the user to better understand data validation and how to tailor a validation policy to meet the needs of an individual hospital.
Creating Your Own Validation Plan
This session will provide the user with a hands-on opportunity to create a validation plan for the trauma center and receive feedback on the document from experienced trainers and staff.
Using Statistics Reports to Prove Validation Effectiveness
This session will assist the user with creating statistics reports to trend improvement of data quality as validation efforts are operationalized.
Validation Review Game
This session will provide a fun opportunity for users to network with their peers and have a chance to win a few prizes for solving puzzles.
